hurricane dotty

Dear sweeties,

I'm off to see ChillyLily and ChillyBilly and Kitty. They live in Tampa, Florida. It seems like they'd have very hard dirt there. Always being tamped down and all.

ChillyLily titled one of her emails to me "hurricane dotty" and that made me laugh. I started thinking of the Neil Young song and wondering if there's ever been calm in my eyes. I suspect that it's been blown away to somewhere safer.

It's getting colder here. Today is damp and cold. It felt like this when BrilliantEditor and I went to Scotland for a day. It snowed. But the ground wasn't cold enough to keep it snow, so at the end of the day it looked as though it had slushed. Our feet got wet and we got wet.

When we got on the train to go home, there really wasn't a good way to keep warm. It seems romantic and dreamy to cuddle up for warmth, but when you both have wet clothes on and BE has a cold, cuddling is like sleeping next to a damp dog who periodically and unpredictably snorts. Instead of getting dry, you just kind of even out the humidity so that your whole side is damp, rather than just one part.

But Scotland was nice. We went to Edinburgh. I was intrigued by the names of shops. There were all kinds of Scottish last names that were repeated throught the great nation. I wondered if people with the last name 'Cranston' would feel happy to see information about tea rooms and streets and such. I bet they would.

At any rate, when the cold is damp like this, it sometimes feels like I'll never get warm. I've tried the method of blanket bundling, but my fingers and nose get cold. I believe the appropriate diagnosis in this case would be that Dotty is a whiner.

And so, hurricane Dotty is blowing into the sunshine state on Friday.I'm excited. I expect to have a very silly, potentially bizarre time.

{parenthetical thought} I'm toying with the idea of not writing here while I'm gone, as it's a vacation of sorts. (I've spoken with BrilliantEditor about the very subject and believe it is in my best interest to set an example for him. "See? This is what we do on vacation! We say goodbye to the everyday!" [Am I being heavy handed? You bet your ass I am.]) {/parenthetical thought}

It will be warm! No more freezy fingers. No more cold nose. And the streets are paved with citrus fruits.

And so I plan on going missing until Wednesday or Thursday. Fret not, however, as there are many archived gems of whimsy and outrageousness to entertain you.

And so, when life gives you lemons, close your eyes, pretend you're in Florida, and make lemonade.

xoxo,
Dotty
